The meaning of Prayer

At Hopedale Presbyterian Church we are earnestly praying for you.

What is the meaning of prayer?

“A solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God."

“Prayer in the Hebrew Bible is an evolving means of interacting with God, most frequently through a spontaneous, individual unorganized form of petition and/or thanking.”

Why do we pray?

Praying is one of the most important and powerful things we can do for each other. When we pray, we are communicating with God. Prayer doesn’t have to be complicated. We pray in earnest so God can hear our concerns and the concerns of others.

At Hopedale we continually pray for the community, we pray this week for patience for parents and teachers who are striving through unprecedented times to love, nurture and teach the children.

We pray for all seniors who are facing loneliness, fear and worry especially in these times; we pray for health and recovery for seniors who are sick or vulnerable especially in COVID times.

Prayer is an action something we shouldn’t just say; prayer is an action. As you go forward this week we encourage you to seek those needing prayer and help. Take time to continually pray for those around you.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV)

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

James 5:13 (NIV)

"Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.”
