Programs

There are a variety of ongoing activities within the Hopedale Community. On any given day the halls of the church will be buzzing with conversation. There are a variety of groups and teams that come together to do the work of the church and enjoy one another’s fellowship.

Banner Group 2012

This year the group completed the two challenges we undertook last year. In the spring we quilted our “Autumn” banner and finished it off with its binding and hanging tabs. It was hard to put away until fall actually came and we could hang it in the sanctuary. It is swirling maple leaves in oranges, golds, and greens against a light background, and is bordered with more autumn colours. The banner just seems to glow. Next, we put together our “Summer” banner and quilted, embroidered and completed it. It is tucked away in our cupboard waiting for its debut in 2013. We hope you will like it. We have already chosen a design for the fourth banner in the series, “Winter”. This will be our most challenging project yet. We look forward to an interesting and creative year in 2013.

Craft Group

craft-groupActively pursues creation of new and interesting crafts plus knitting and sewing projects for sale at the annual Christmas “Wonderland Bazaar” while enjoying fun and fellowship. The group varies in size but always welcomes newcomers.

The Craft Group meets Monday mornings Sept. to May at 9.30 in the choir room, across the hall from the sanctuary.

Knitting Group

This merry band of knitters, crocheters, and tea drinkers began meeting in November. So far we have seven members. Three sweaters have been completed so far by individuals, and mitts, a poncho, an afghan, toys and another couple of sweaters are on the needles even now. If you are interested, bring along your project and join us. If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet, we have people who can teach you. Needles, yarn and pattern magazines are available too. No experience is necessary. We meet on Thursday afternoons from about 1:15 to 3:00 in the parlour. Needless to say, a tea break is always included. Why not come and knit and purl and hook and chat with us.

Serendipty Quilters

Donna Parkhill, our master quilter, led us in making baby quilts this year. One was completed in the spring, and another one just in time for the bazaar. Actually it sold at the bazaar and was on its way overseas in short order. Now we have started quilting yet another baby quilt for a special little person. Its a lot of fun to do these smaller projects. We will be shopping for new ones to enjoy making in the coming year.

Wednesday Morning Coffee

The Hopedale Presbyterian Church – Ladies of the Coffee Morning meet once a month on the second Wednesday of the month. On June 13, 2012, we gave a contribution of $200.00 to the General Assembly Fund. We have a variety of speakers and demonstrations. We welcome you to come and be with us for an informal get together.
